Exhibition 'Wild West Midlands' 16th - 30th June 2006

'Wild West Midlands'
By Kristin Lyseggen

Guns, spurs, rifles, buckles and Moon Shine. Mountain Men, Trappers, Mexicans, Red Indians, Sheriffs, Gamblers - and hundreds of Cowboys. It is as authentic as it can be down at certain undisclosed social clubs in the West Midlands.

Particularly interested in working photographically with identity issues,
Kristin Lyseggen becomes irresistibly drawn into her photo subject's world and the possibility of the changed identity. With her new photodocumentary 'Wild West Midlands' (work in progress), Kristin is trying to produce images that are far deeper than superficial renderings and stereotypical representations. 'Wild West Midlands' is a photo documentary of the Country & Western scene in the West Midlands and the first ever exhibition is to be shown at The Rotunda from 16th to 30th of June as part of the New Generation Art Festival.

Kristin has two other exhibitions in June:
'Shooting Drama', Millennium Point 31st May - 8th June 2006
'Musical Progressions', Paradise Forum 6th June - November 2006

Musical Progressions is the first exhibition produced by the Windows of Opportunity Project.

Portraits of 14 graduates from the Birmingham Conservatoire will be displayed in Paradise Forum from 6th June to November 2006.

For this first project, Windows of Opportunity collaborated closely with UCE’s Birmingham Conservatoire, Argent and Birmingham Central Library and invited Kristin Lyseggen to make portraits of some of this year’s new graduates.
Kristin was intrigued by the subject matter and sought to capture them in environments of their choice so as to reflect their personality and musical genre. The New Generation Arts (NGA) Festival is a four-week programme of innovative graduate art shows to be held in June in Birmingham.

Kristin Lyseggen studied BA Photography at UCE, graduating in 2004 with a First Class Honours Degree. Kristin is a Norwegian photojournalist who has lived in Birmingham for five years. She has done several exhibitions and continues to document life in her own individual style. She now works freelance and has a studio in the Jewellery Quarter. She has two further exhibitions in the NGA Festival.

The portraits of the Conservatoire's graduates will be displayed in the large windows outside Paradise Forum between Birmingham Central Library and the Birmingham Conservatoire.
